A Note from Jennifer

Last week was a gathering time of sharing--collecting photos and ideas and feedback from all of you. Thank you to everyone who contributed. I was truly amazed. Today is a time for asking for help. I am learning how many of us are afraid or taught that we appear weak if we ask for assistance or help of any kind.

How many of you this year have asked a friend, a colleague, a family member, or even a stranger for help? It seems to be a belief system that has plagued our culture. I invite you to help in the change of this current vibration. Start asking for help and start teaching your children that it is alright to ask for help.

Being very ill for close to three months over 6 years ago was the beginning of my breakthrough in asking for help. Watching friends and family take shifts in washing my body, feeding me, and bringing me groceries was heart wrenching for me. Breaking my shoulder last year was a revisiting to this awareness. Sending an email to friends asking them to cut my vegetables and brush my hair while my shoulder healed was a lesson in itself.

We perceive ourselves as helpless or weak when we need or ask for help. What I have learned is that it is the opposite. Asking for help is courage, strength, and wisdom all rolled into one.

From You to Me:

From an 80-year old man walking the beach while holding a cane. Yet he was not using the cane. He was walking briskly while carrying the cane at his side. I said to him, "Looks like you certainly don't need your cane." He stopped and showed it to me. "I carved it myself." he said. It was a wooden whale with a round ball in its mouth. Very beautiful and very delicately carved. "It holds memories for me and sometimes I do need the strength of my whale cane. This way 'help' is always with me."
